HOME & GARDEN IMPROVEMENT

IMPROVE YOUR HOME & GARDEN IDEA

I was amazed at how green my gas camp stove – £ 4 bottle lasted me three weeks – and wondering why those in domestic kitchens are not the same.

Some of the reasons is because the type of gas, but a large part of the problem is noise – a camp stove is a noisy compared Fri huishouden gas hob, but it is this characteristic that makes it so effective – the size and number of burner holes. This is another example of how we have changed the efficiency of the aesthetics of our wallets and the environment against.

We use a heck of a lot of energy while cooking – think how long it takes to bring a pot of water to a boil on the stove – religious, full speed, chewing of 2400 watts per hour. While there may not be harmful fumes pouring out of your kitchen, they are produced elsewhere, for example, where your electricity is created. coal-fired generation of electricity is a significant contribution to emissions of carbon dioxide, the main reason why global warming.

There are a number of ways to work around inefficient appliances in our kitchen, here are some tips

1. Hide

Where possible, cover your pots and pans. This will help your food cook more quickly and provides a higher temperature so that you turn the stove.

2. Taking the heat

Instead of turning off the stove when dinner is ready, experiment with turning off just before the food is cooked. An electric frying pan can turn off a minute or two ago, and the oven for 10-20 minutes depending on how well it is insulated and sealed. It may not sound like a big savings, especially with electric heating, dollar amount.

3. Nuke it

Rather than have the water boiling in a saucepan, but rather to kill in a microwave. In fact, try a microwave as much as possible to keep a stack of electrical energy use.

4. In the rough

What’s cooking with carrots? They are delicious cooked in my opinion, as other vegetables. Experiment a little with raw foods. You will not only save electricity and gas, but cooking destroys nutrients.

5. Be prepared

I fired griddle tonight and then began slicing and dicing – tch tch, less gas wasted in the process. Always ensure your ingredients are prepared as much as possible before turning on the heat.

6. Slow food

Growing up in 70 years, crock dishes were all the rage. These are the heavy container that age has nothing to do, but cooked at a very low temperature. The idea was to tap into it before you return to work and by the time you came home, dinner was ready. Save power and was very tasty!

7. Hot Stuff

It is not only ready to eat yet? Instead of the oven to keep warm, wrap in a towel pot – this will help cut off for a while.

8. Pride in pots and pans

Resist buying cheap pots and pans – they will cost more in the long run. A good sturdy, thick set will last a lifetime as they take the heat, the heat distribution is good and they will store heat for later. Glass and ceramic pots and pans are said to be more efficient, but personally I like a heavy steel I like a bit clumsy at times.

9. The right pan for the job

If you see the heating element or burner flame I was a little on the pot or pan is too small and a large portion of heat is wasted.

10. Keep doors closed

What is the oven door mirror? It’s worth the time to keep clean so you can see, instead of opening the door to check food.

11. Drop the pilot

(Apologies to Joan Armatrading). Older gas furnaces have a pilot light 24 / 7 burns. Although a small flame, the period of one day, he uses a lot of gas. Consider this off (well).

12. Water, water everywhere

Use only as much water you need in a pot. Any additional reduction requires more energy to heat and cooking time.

Respecting some or all of the above items will not only preserve the environment, but if millions of us that small steps in energy, it certainly adds up!
